Taking it Easy

Lots of changes coming at work. Mostly good. I don’t fear change, but if I don’t understand what’s coming, I can become skeptical. Couple that was the condition of the economy, mostly lame candidates in the 2012 GOP primary (I love politics!) and that can add up to a lot of uncertainty.

This guy helps run a bed and breakfast tucked in Geneva of 38. I wonder what it’s like to get to that age where you’ve seen it all and finally get to relax and run a B&B.

So stay classy, kick back and take it easy once in a while. Also, shooting at f1.4 allowed me to shoot at ISO800 instead of ISO3200. Time for primes. But need money. Someday!

PS – This is an image from a wedding a shot a few weeks ago. Working on editing, should have a post up soon!

One Month of Baby

This is a few weeks late, but Annabellais now a little over a month old! It’s crazy how much time flies, how quickly things change and how quickly everything continues changing. Personally, I think it’s a fun ride, especially when you have your best friend beside you to take on the world. And heck, I turned 25 today! A good age, I think.

Today’s title is from “On the Other Side” on my current obsession album, Augustana’s latest self-titled.

I don’t know where the ocean meets the sky
I don’t know why the world keeps spinning by
Don’t know why the hours move so slow
Babe, when I’m with you, I don’t want to know
Want to feel your feet lifting off the ground
I want to feel you love me at the speed of sound
Babe it could end tonight
Know it would be alright
Cuz I’m gonna love you
Somewhere on the other side

Some more posts are on the way, for realsies.

Today’s blog title is from a Chopin song. It’s busy and chaotic, but beautiful all the while. I can’t think of any better way to describe the last two months.

Since I started with the Gery Chico campaign in mid-October, Chico went from being one of the many other candidates running against Rahm Emmanuel, to easily being the number two candidate in the race. Don’t worry about polls this early, it’s just getting started! I really really wish I could spend more time working with the campaign. It’s a blast, I want more.

I also closed on a house in October. Yup. West-side of Elgin, near Wing Park. Bit of a fixer-upper (understatement), probably wont be able to move in until late January or so. I’ve got some early photos to scare you with.

I also started dating (more accurately, falling in love with) the lovely Alison Mojica. She was my first-ever crush in middle school, waaaaay back. Since then we’ve been good friends, I always was able to turn to her during rough times in life. Without being too dramatic, she’s literally changed my life in just two months. She’s the one. Rough times are ahead, but I know we can lean on each other to make it through.

Well, I’ll have some more goodies for you in the near future (read: this week)!

Whelp, tomorrow is Election Day folks!

I have to say, there are not many valid excuses for not voting, unless you were unable to absentee vote or something.

BUT please vote informed. As I am sure you have been hearing EVERYWHERE, there is a lot at stake in this election, no matter which side of the political spectrum you land yourself.

I get that you’re upset with the negative campaign ads that are everywhere, disaffected by the excessive spending on these races and confused by the sheer quantity of candidates, offices and proposed policies and ideas. I get that it’s been a rough several years for many, facing plummeting home prices, cut back at work and possibly even job loss, not to mention so much frickin’ road construction.

Everyone loves to stay away, to say that the system is broken and therefore it doesn’t matter if you vote or not, your voice won’t be heard.

But don’t let that keep you home. The reason the system is broken is because you, the voter, are disaffected, under-informed and under-enthused to get involved. You cannot sit down and complain from your couch that the system is broken. Help fix it, stand up. Be informed.

Here are some resources for you sit down with today/tonight to help you know what’s going on and where the candidates stand. Spend an hour or so and walk into the booth tomorrow with your head held high. Don’t wake up November 3rd and feel left behind. Every vote matters, these races are so close.

Note: These resources are fairly localized to Illinois races, analytics tells me that’s where most of my visitors are from :-) Apologies to everyone else. Check out your local papers, they are sure to have similar information.

Chicago Tribune Resources:

Chicago Sun-Times Resources:

Daily Herald Resources:

  • Endorsements – Well, it’s just their picks, wish they backed them up with a ‘why’ in an easy-to-find place
  • Articles a plenty – Lots of articles, seems to let you sort by a particular race

Information Junky Resources:

I hope that gives you some help and helps lead to some informed votes.

BTW – Don’t feel like you have to stick to one party, choose the candidate that represents your opinions not your registered party. And don’t be afraid to vote for a third party candidate, even if they don’t have much of a hope of winning, get out and support them if they reflect your politics.

Stand up, be counted.

Peace,

Today’s title is not from a song. But I’m digging Sleeping At Last’s Yearbook EP project.

PS – I have some really exciting things going on, I’ll update you all soon!

Ah, the quintessential double-post.

Rain on the car window, on Beverly Road overlooking I-90 at 4am

Localins will know that we’ve had quite a number of strong storm systems in the Chicago area of late. I love ‘em. Can’t get enough of them. Well, on Friday I ended up crashing in bed much earlier than usual, must have been a weighty day. I woke up at 3:00 am to the sounds of a storm starting to roll in.

Crashes of lightening and bellows of thunder that just make me giddy with excitement and awed at the display of power.

So I did what any photographer would do, jumped out of bed, grabbed my camera from my car and started walking towards Congdon Avenue in Elgin. I got about half way down the blog and decided I needed a trash bag to keep my (weather resistant) camera dryish. By the time I got towards the house, it was pouring like mad.

It was great. I was SOAKED.

(Camera was fine, woot for a 1D Mark III!)

I was hoping to get a lightning shot, but I just wasn’t able to get one and wasn’t really prepared. Tripods help a lot, as well as something to really keep the camera dry and the lens clear. After some attempts from my car on Beverly Road over I-90, the storm started to pass. This was what I came away with from the adventure. All-in-all, the 45minutes spent in the rain was fun enough.

More to this post, but it’s kinda emo. :-P (okay, not really, but tis heavy.)
